Feel free to ask in english if you see something that interests you. Most Finns do get along ok with this "London accent" ;)

A couple of on-line Finnish-English-Finnish dictionaries:

Actually, it's just kinda joke here in Finland to refer to English language as "Lontoon murre" which I translated as "London accent" ;) Most of us speak more American than British English though :)

howdy Finski ! no , wont be posting over there anymore . getting around ok for almost dieing last march ! i'll PM you .

sorry 'bout the language jokes helpinghand , couldnt help it .

thanks for the greeting KukaLie .

i was asking about these Lapua bullet numbers because , i was told winchester copied the s.309 bullet for Frankfort A. and LakeCity to make 762x39 back in 1970s . it is similar to a common M67 bullet in that it seems to have a tangent 6s calibre ogive radius (0.610" nose length) , ~0.9" length over all and a conical depression in the open base .

all i see on Lapua boxes of 762x39FMJ is s.405 bullet .

back in 1990 i had some plainbox Lapua 762x39 . it didnt say what bullet was loaded but i (think) remember it being a stubby bullet with no base depression ( truely flatbased ) like current Win , Rem , Fed bullets . tangent 5s calibre ogive (0.510" nose length), about 0.840" long . is this # s.405 bullet ?

i finally got Lapuas website to work but it was no help .

eventully i'll find examples to buy/collect but its nice to know what your looking for before looking .

S309 vs S405

Viesti Kirjoittaja Samppa V »

S309 is .30 caliber and S405 is .311 caliber (for AK's and Finnish army RK's)

here you can read the post that started me looking for/at these bullets , especially what "AKMS" wrote . you can download the LakeCity toolroom drawings .

http://www.gunboards.com/forums/topic.a ... =lake,city

is this copy of Lapua bullet "s.309" ?as you can see , the bullet in that drawing is somewhat similar too every other 762x39 M67 bullet in the world , has a 6s radius ogive , base core depression and is about 0.900 inch long .

is s.405 bullet different in some way ?

LOL

Samppa howcome you don´t remeber that s309 is stamped on ammo box JVA317???

s309 just name for .310 bullet in militaryload just like US marks m193 (55gr) or m855 (62gr)

s405 is Lapua civilian marking for .310 bullet (they are actually quite thinner. One Lapua sales rep once told to local deathdealer [the one here in kymi that looks like Santa from Hell] that .311 label on box just means that bullets won´t be thicker than that.

s374 is marking for .308 123 gr fmj, basicly the same bullet as s405 but with additional canellure for recocknation (spelling?)

for s409 don´t know
tracer jva313 and bullet is marked as swedish...

anybody with ALS (aluminiumcore training bullets) box what does it say??

Finski

thanks folks .

that seems to straighten me out :?

i was also trying to determine WHY and WHEN the devergence from soviet M43 bullet ?

is it difficult to manufacture steelcore M43 ?

in YUGOSLAVIA they made M43 ammo for 3 years , then the soviets withdrew support from the country , and they designed their own bullet ,,, M67 (1967) . so , who copyed from who ?

JVA 0317 means same thing as JVA0316 but not packaged watertight, that is .311 bullet also.
S374(.30) is same as S405(.311) but thinner.
There are no difference in markings when spoked about military or commercial, only terms differ.

Only steelcorebullets made in Finland what I know are AP.

Why make something inferrior when you can use exisiting machines to produce cheaper and more accurate bullets :?

Yoda do want some for testing?? ie. both s374 and s405?

i have pritty much tested all the types out ...

i'm wanting to understand WHY that these M67 style bullets were made given M43 was such a success and WHO made them first .
